Continuing northward about another 10 miles, we find the city of St. Helena (pop. ~5,800), the charming heart of the Napa Valley. It is generally considered the cultural hub of the Napa Valley, as well. Winemaking has a long history here, as the first winery began here in the 1800's. Another source of pride for the community is the Culinary Institute of America, which also features a tasting bar and an acclaimed eatery. While there, indulge in the designer shops, olive oil tasting, or artisan chocolates. For a change of pace, rent a bike and ride to the lake, or take in a movie at the historic cinema.
