San Diego California Travel & Vacation Guide

The Birthplace of California

San Diego may be California's second largest city, but it most certainly takes the blue ribbon for happiness. As a matter of fact, it's official slogan is "Happy Happens." And with 70 miles of sunny coastline, an average year-round temperature of 70°F, diverse neighborhoods,  and a plethora of attractions for every age and personality imaginable, how could happy NOT happen? But before we get down to brass tacks and learn about some of its amazing neighborhoods, let's get a little background on this first class ticket to bliss called San Diego.

San Diego, California is the eighth largest city in the U.S., with a population of just over 1.3 million as of 2010. The city is the county seat of San Diego County, located in the state's southwest corner. Its borders include Tijuana, Mexico, located directly south of the city, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Laguna Mountains and Anza-Borrego Desert to the east. San Diego is known as "The Birthplace of California", as it was the first area claimed by Europeans on what is now the west coast of the U.S.
